I am looking for a chair and commentator for a panel for the SHEAR conference being held July 22-25 in Rochester New York on the effect of reform on children and childhood. My paper will look at the fundraising effort for the Morning Star, a missionary ship built with the contributions of children, in order to better understand the way children were taught to spend money and the rise of juvenile consumerism. My co-panelist, Amber Moulton-Wiseman, will be presenting a paper on how reformers argued that interracial bans hurt children, and how these arguments shaped the anti-slavery movement more broadly. If anyone is interested in acting as a chair or commentator, please write to me off list at dmg323@psu.edu.
