We report several major American tours by musical automatons in our NEH
supported census:

Corry, et al. "The Performing Arts in Colonial American Newspapers,
1690-1783"--available on CD at http://www.colonialmusic.org

A search of the papers from 1784-1800 on the "Archive of Americana"
(Readex/Newsbank/AAS) would probably turn up more.
