I'm a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Davis. I was planning on submitting a paper proposal for next July's SHEAR conference in Rochester but I thought it might be more interesting to put together a panel for the conference. I'll be proposing a paper that examines the failure of urban land speculation in early Washington, DC. It will focus on attitudes toward land speculation in the Early Republic as well as the organizational structure of the government body created for the purpose of building the federal city. If you've got a paper in mind that might complement mine, I'd love to hear from you. Papers concerned with land speculation, urban development, public infrastructure, or public finance would definitely mesh well with what I'm thinking. Of course, suggestions for potential chairs and commentators would be welcome as well. Thanks for your time and have a great day, Adam Costanzo ****************** Ph.D. Candidate History Department University of California, Davis arcostanzo@ucdavis.edu
