It's book-order time for the fall, again, and I'm curious as to what the rest of you assign for upper-division (junior/senior undergraduates) courses on the Early Republic. Here it's defined 1787-1860. I like to have an overview plus four or five books. At least one should be a "primary" source--novel, autobiography, document collection, etc. Anyone found the perfect syllabus yet?
