NCH Washington Update for October 30, 2009 Below are the headlines from the most recent issue of the National Coalition for History Washington newsletter. To read the full stories, visit the NCH site at: http://historycoalition.org/ *************** Congress Passes Second Continuing Resolution On October 29, Congress passed the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies fiscal year (FY) 2010 appropriations bill (H.R. 2996) (H. Rept. 111-316). The bill includes a second continuing resolution (CR) that provides funding to keep the federal government running until December 18. The current CR expires at midnight October 31 and President Obama is expected to sign the bill before then. National Endowment for the Humanities FY 2010 Budget The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) would receive $167.5 million under the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies fiscal year (FY) 2010 appropriations bill (H.R. 2996) (H. Rept. 111-316) that was passed by Congress on October 29. This represents a $12.5 million increase over the FY 2009 level of $155 million. The bill now goes to the President for his signature. National Park Service FY 2010 Budget On October 29, Congress passed the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies fiscal year (FY) 2010 appropriations bill (H.R. 2996) (H. Rept. 111-316) which provides $2.2 billion for the operation of the National Park Service (NPS). This represents a $130 million increase over the FY 2009 level. The bill now goes to the President for his signature. Smithsonian Institution FY 2010 Budget The Smithsonian Institution will receive $791 million under the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies fiscal year (FY) 2010 appropriations bill (H.R. 2996) (H. Rept. 111-316) that was passed by Congress on October 29. This represents a $60 million increase over the FY 2009 level of $731 million. The bill now goes to the President for his signature. Library of Congress FY 2010 Budget President Obama recently signed into law the Legislative Branch fiscal year 2010 appropriations bill (P.L. 111-68) (H. Rept. 111-265). The bill includes $439.8 million for salaries and expenses at the Library of Congress.
