Dear Colleagues: In the past H-Poland has served only to distribute book reviews that were already published on another H-Net site, which means that we have overlooked many excellent books about Poland. I’d like to start including more reviews that are unique to our field, and to start things off I will be forwarding in a few minutes a couple reviews of recent books on Polish topics. Both of these are either already published or soon to appear, and I think that’s a good place to start. If any of you write a review for a journal dealing with Polish studies, please forward the text to me and I’ll share it with the H-Poland membership. Reviews written in any major language are fine, but Polish or English are preferred. This could be particularly valuable as a way to inform those of us outside of Poland about the newest work being published in Poland, and the other way around. Please give all the relevant details for attribution, including the journal in which the review appeared (or will appear) and the individual who commissioned it. Please do NOT send me unsolicited or unpublished reviews. It would eventually be nice to start soliciting our own reviews, as many of the H-Net sites do. If someone would like to volunteer as Review Editor, we can start doing this. The duties of such a position would be to identify noteworthy volumes in Polish studies across all academic disciplines, and then finding people to write the reviews. I imagine that one or two reviews a month would be ideal, though we can accommodate as many as can be generated. It might be best to have a review editor within Poland to focus on the domestic publishing market, and one outside Poland to concentrate on international scholarship about Poland. If anyone is interested in volunteering for this project, please send me an e-mail directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. Brian Porter-Szűcs --
