Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2013 To: H-NET Discussion List on Oral History Subject: Hebrew University conference on oral history [Editor's note: We remind H-Oralhist subscribers that the opinions expressed in H-Oralhist messages and on the Web sites to which they refer are those of the authors of those messages and do not necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of H-Oralhist or H-Net. In the interest of maintaining the intended focus of H-Oralhist, please address further general discussion of political issues directly to the poster, Sherna Berger Gluck, firstname.lastname@example.org.] Dear Colleagues: This is a brief response to the August 2nd post by the organizer of the oral history conference at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Of course, I agree with her that we must each make our own decision about the boycott of this conference, just as we would about any statement we make or action we take. We must be fully informed as we ponder our decisions. To that end, I refer you to the detailed and footnoted letter signed by 100 international academics, including 21 oral historians (see links below). Among other things, the letter provides historical documentation that contests the statement made by the organizer about the Mount Scopus campus site. The letter and list of the signatories can be found at the following sites in the US, Israel, France, England, and India: http://www.usacbi.org/2013/08/call-to-boycott-the-oral-history-conference-at -the-hebrew-university-of-jerusalem-open-letter/ http://www.alternativenews.org/english/index.php/features/economy-of-the-occ upation/6896-boycott-oral-history-conference-at-hebrew-u http://www.aurdip.org/Call-to-Boycott-the-Oral-History.htmlhttp://www.bricup .org.uk/ http://incacbi.in/campaign-boycott-oral-history-conference-hebrew-university -jerusalem Sincerely, Sherna Sherna Berger Gluck Director Emerita, Oral History Program, California State University, Long Beach Founder and Co-Director Emerita, CSULB Oral/Aural History Archive Oral History Association Stetson Kennedy Vox Populi Award awardee, 2012 --
