Mythology in Contemporary Culture--2010 Popular Culture Association Annual National Conference Location: Missouri, United States Call for Papers Deadline: 2009-12-15 Date Submitted: 2009-10-30 Announcement ID: 171631 Mythology in Contemporary Culture CALL FOR PAPERS 2010 Popular Culture Association (PCA)/American Culture Association (ACA) Annual National Conference Renaissance Grand Hotel St. Louis St. Louis, Missouri March 31 - April 3, 2010 The "Mythology in Contemporary Culture" area is dedicated to exploring mythological figures and motifs (from all cultures and historical periods) in all areas of popular culture-from movies, video games and television to novels, politics and blogs-and the significance of these mythological figures and motifs in contemporary, postmodern culture. All abstracts pertaining to the general theme of mythology in contemporary culture are welcome. Please note that, for the purposes of this area, "mythology" refers to traditional stories and narratives, as, for example, those of classical Greek/Roman or Egyptian or Hindu mythology. It does not include "mythology" in terms of a current critique of cultural values or assumptions (as in the deconstruction of contemporary "mythologies"). In other words, the panels are devoted to contemporary epiphanies of such archetypes as Isis and Hermes and Kali, and not to postmodern evaluations of such "mythologies" as colonialism, structuralism, or psychoanalysis. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: DECEMBER 15, 2009. Please submit an abstract of 250 words or less no later than December 15, 2009 to: earth2k8@mac.com Submissions must include name and institutional affiliation, as well as a title for the paper.
