The New Jersey Council for the Humanities is sponsoring a tour of the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music throughout the state beginning in spring 2011. Through a selection of photographs, recordings, instruments, lyrics and artist profiles, the New Harmonies exhibition explores the distinct cultural identities of gospel, country, blues and other forms of roots music as they record the history of the American people and set the foundation for many musical genres appreciated world wide today. NJCH is looking for sites to host the exhibit. Eligible sites may be smaller museums, historic houses, historical societies, and libraries, ideally in communities of fewer than 20,000 residents. All host sites must have: * at least 800 square feet of display space * eight foot ceilings * a staff person or volunteer to serve as project director * ideas for programming and local exhibits about New Jersey’s musical heritage The deadline for host sites to apply is November 20, 2009. For more information about the exhibit, including an application for host sites, please go to:www.njch.org/newharmonies.html [http://www.njch.org/newharmonies.html] or contact the New Jersey Council for the Humanities at 888-FYI-NJCH.Mary Rizzo, Ph.D. Associate Director New Jersey Council for the Humanities 28 W.
