Marinetti founded the Futurist movement--one of the most innovative and influential avant-gardes of the twentieth century. On the occasion of the centenary of Futurism, this symposium addresses the uneasy, if powerful, alliance of art and politics. Experts from across the Humanities and Social Sciences ask the questions: how and why was modernism used to legitimize and celebrate modern warfare, especially dominance from the air. This symposium is a must for those interested in the use of aesthetics and visual representation in the shaping of public opinion.
