Good morning everyone, With Veteran's Day coming up, I was wondering if anyone has plans to attend any veteran's day events in your home communities. In particular, does yoru community offer any events to recognize women's service in particular? The Women in Military Service for America Memorial in DC has their annual event coming up, and they have a list of other events online at http://womensmemorial.org/News/events.html Here is the full list from that page, in case any of these are in your community. If you're aware of an event, please send it in! If you attend an event, we'd love to hear about it! Annual Women's Memorial Veterans Day Ceremony—Nov. 11 Mark your calendars and plan to join us for the annual Women's Memorial Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11, 2009. The program will begin at 3 p.m. The ceremony, one of three major observances in the nation's capital, is free and open to the public and will include formal military honors, a keynote address, veterans' remarks, and a wreathlaying. Women in the Military Monument to be Unveiled in Kentucky—Nov.7 A commissioned monument for Women in the Military will be unveiled in Kentucky during the Morgan County Annual Veteran’s Day Program. This historic event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in West Liberty, KY. Retired Air Force Major General Verna Fairchild, who now resided in Kentucky, will represent the Foundation at the event. The new monument is the only one of its kind in the state. Oklahoma Women Veterans Recognition Day—Nov. 7 The annual Oklahoma Women Veterans Recognition Day program is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. The daylong event will be held at the Biltmore Hotel Oklahoma in Oklahoma City and is free to all OK women veterans, past and present. For more information and to register for this event, visit the Oklahoma Women Veterans Organization’s Web site. OLLI Special Veterans Day Celebration—Nov. 13 The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) of the University of Connecticut-Waterbury will host a special Veterans Day program titled “Called to Serve: A History of America's Military Women” on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, from 1:30–3:00 p.m. Special guest speaker for the event is Women's Memorial Foundation president, Brigadier General Wilma L. Vaught. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Multipurpose Room on the University of Connecticut-Waterbury’s campus. Reservations, however, are required. Vietnam Women Veterans Conference—Save the Date The next Vietnam Women Veterans’ Conference will be held in Branson, MO, Apr. 29-May 2, 2010.
