Hope College will host the next Phi Alpha Theta Regional Meeting for Michigan and surrounding areas. The conference will be held on our campus in Holland, Michigan, on Saturday, March 29, 2014. The deadline for the submission of abstracts has been extended to Monday, February 10, 2014. Final papers are due to the panel chairs by March 3. If you would like the paper to be considered for an award, it should also be submitted by the 3rd as well. Papers should be no more than 10 to 12 double-spaced typewritten pages. The reading length should be no more than 15-20 minutes. Only Phi Alpha Theta student members are eligible for prizes; awards will be given for the best undergraduate and graduate papers. Please encourage your students to present papers at the conference. In addition, I hope you will consider chairing a panel. If so, please send a CV email@example.com that clearly indicates your areas of expertise. Session chairs will read and evaluate three to four papers, introduce presenters, and provide constructive commentary at the session. Evaluation forms will be provided to session chairs to help with assessment of the quality of research, writing, analysis, and strength of oral presentation. In addition to the Phi Alpha Theta Conference on Saturday the 29th, we also invite you to a Colloquium on the History of Reformed Church in America (RCA) Missionaries in China to be held in the late afternoon and evening of Friday, March 28. This Colloquium will include presentations by Hope College students of collaborative research using the RCA Archives at Hope College as well as a keynote address by Dr. Ryan Dunch, Associate Professor and Chair of East Asian Studies at the University of Alberta and author of Fuzhou Protestants and the Making of a Modern China, 1857-1927 (New Haven: Yale University Press, 2001). We look forward to hearing from you and your students. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
