Center for Health Equity, University of Minnesota Please see two positions with the Center for Health Equity at the University of Minnesota: 1) Program Administrative Director; and 2) Postdoctoral Associate, Center for Health Equity. Program Administrative Director, Center for Health Equity The University of Minnesota (UMN) is one of the most comprehensive public universities in the United States and ranks among the most prestigious. The Center for Health Equity is a Medical School center that was established in 2009 with receipt of an NIH Comprehensive Centers of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities award. It is leading a large and ambitious agenda to transform research and strengthen community partnerships at the University and in the Twin Cities. The program is looking for an Administrative Director to assist in leading day-to-day activities of the Center. Essential minimum requirements are (1) a master's degree in social science, public health, health services research, clinical research, health communication, or a health-related field, (2) three to five years in middle management with direct supervisory experience required, and (3) three to five years experience managing research projects, as well as administrative and budget management experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate degree in social science, public health, health services research, clinical research, health communication, or health-related fields. The Program Administrative Director will oversee management and administration of the Center for Health Equity, including fiscal operations, human resources, and research planning, as directed by the Executive Director. Specific duties include: 1. Lead conference planning for the annual Accelerating the Future Symposium and the Midwest Regional Conference on Health Disparities and Minority Health in year 5 of this grant 2. Oversee center budget 3. Serve ex-officio on the four Advisory Boards; 4. Lead preparation and submission of reports for NIH, IRB renewal, and the Medical School; 5. Develop the agenda of the Executive Board meetings, External Advisory board meetings, senior leadership meetings and annual strategic planning retreats; 6. Manage all other daily administrative functions related to this Center grant; 7. Market the Center and its programs; 8. Represent the Center (CHE) and travel to, and work with, our partners from selected Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to identify and recruit health science students; 9. Lead some manuscripts in the area of health disparities and minority health; 10. Manage the Center's space in the University's new UNP building in the northside community in North Minneapolis, and serve as the liaison to the UNP staff (in the Provost's office); and 11. In years 2-5, in addition to the CHE grant, take on a leadership role on two other NIH grants (R01 and RC2 ARRA stimulus) in the area of minority health. Postdoctoral Associate, Center for Health Equity The Department of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School is excited to announce the availability of a post-doctoral associate position in: health disparities, nicotine dependence/smoking cessation, obesity/weight loss, cardiovascular disease, and cancer prevention and control. The primary responsibility of the fellow will be to assist in building active programs of research. The postdoctoral mentor will be Jasjit S. Ahluwalia, MD, MPH, MS. Dr. Ahluwalia is the PI of a new NIH-funded P60 Comprehensive Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities, which provides a strong infrastructure for those interested in this area. The University has supplemented the federal funding with institutional funding and has created a new Center for Health Equity for which Dr. Ahluwalia serves as the founding Executive Director. He has a long track record of successfully mentoring trainees, most of who have gone on to secure NIH funding. Eligible candidates should have a doctoral degree in behavioral science, health education, health services research, sociology, anthropology, clinical, social or counseling psychology or a related discipline. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and strong training in applied research. The position provides exceptional mentored training with an opportunity to develop research skills and collaborate with a dynamic, federally funded, multi-disciplinary team of investigators including psychologists, physicians, epidemiologists, and statisticians. The position is annually renewable, for up to two years, with a flexible start date, competitive salary, excellent resources for career development, and liberal benefits. The training can be tailored to suit the individual's requirements with opportunities for teaching experience, clinical work, authorship on relevant manuscripts, collaborative grant writing experience, independent grant submission, and funding to obtain an MPH or MS in Clinical Research. There is also ample support for conference travel and other training experiences.
