Internship Opportunity - Studio Photographer/Imaging Services Intern Maryland Historical Society http://www.mdhs.org 201 West Monument Street Baltimore, MD 21201 Maryland Historical Society is seeking a college-level intern or volunteer to photograph objects, manuscripts, artwork, and over sized photographs in its collection for college credit. Under general supervision, the intern/volunteer will produce 300 DPI JPGs using a digital camera provided by MdHS (or using their own camera) in the copy studio. After photographs have been taken, the intern will learn post-production processing, such as embedding metadata. The purpose of photographing the collection is to provide a reproduction of over sized or 3D objects to patrons of Imaging Services who will then reproduce our images in publications, exhibitions, etc. Any time the photographer is not photographing items in the collection, they will be scanning manuscripts and photographs that can fit on a tabloid-sized scanner and learning the general standards for digitization. This is a great position for a photographer who would like studio, museum, and library experience. Other Job Requirements: Must have some experience using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, and Digital SLRs. Some studio photography experience is highly valued. Furlong Baldwin Library collection includes 60,000 books, 800,000 photographs, 5 million manuscripts, 6,500 prints and broadsides, 1 million pieces of printed ephemera, extensive genealogy indexes, and more, reflecting the history of Maryland and its people. The MdHS Museum includes 18th- and 19th-century paintings and silver to 20th-century objects of everyday life. There are more than 350,000 objects in the collection.
