Greetings and salutations! I am currently a doctoral student at the University of South Florida. My area of research is gender and sexuality in the British Floridas during the eighteenth century. The connection to Louisiana history is the parishes around Baton Rouge and Manchac that comprised the furthest western boundaries of the colony of West Florida during the British period between 1763 and 1784. My query for the list surrounds some of the trade that was going on in the settlements of the Baton Rouge and Manchac areas, particularly in the 1770s. I am currently investigating a link between the famed trader, explorer, and scientist William Dunbar and his connection to plantation holders in East Florida via business/trading partnerships he may have had. I have consulted the Life, Letters and Papers of William Dunbar 1749-1810 collection and the DeRosier 1966 article on Dunbar. However, if anyone is currently working on anything tangential to Dunbar or has any additional citation suggestions, I would be very glad to receive them. Sincerest Regards, ~Deborah Bauer University of South Florida DeborahLBauer@aol.com
