I am planning on proposing a paper for the LHA on the drive to overturn the Head and Master clause of Louisiana's Civil Code, which gave the husband control of the couple's community property. I will look at the three high-profile cases that were instrumental in convincing the legislature to overturn Head and Master and replace it with Equal Management -- Selina Martin, Barbara Hansen, and Paillott Feenstra - as well as the arguments of Janet Mary Riley, the Loyola law professor who spearheaded the change. I'm interested in putting together a panel of papers that examine Louisiana's community property system in practice.
