For all of you who work on Paraguay, I realize that the state of some archives are not very good. There is funding available through PLALA (Program for Latin American Libraries and Archives) for the preservation of archives and documents, up to $20,000 per project. The archive must apply for the monies and show the institutional capacity to administer them, as well as the need. This might include infrastructure (bookshelves, dehumidifier, etc.) as well as cataloguing, preservation of documents, digitalization, etc. We are interested in getting more Paraguayan projects (as well as for other countries). The person who administers this program is Dan Hazen at Harvard. You can reach him at dchazen@fas.harvard.edu. I would also be happy to answer any questions about the program - I am a member of the evaluation committee. Erick Langer History/SFS Georgetown University Washington, DC.
