The Newberry Library Seminar in Labor History Co-sponsored by the History Departments of Northern Illinois University, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Labor and Working Class History Association * Saturday, November 14, 2009 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM The Newberry Library, Ruggles Hall * *Saturday New Book Symposium: Consumers---The Unknown Social Movement* *Debating Lawrence Glickman's, Buying Power: A History of Consumer Activism in America (University of Chicago Press, 2009).* /Featuring author Lawrence Glickman, University of South Carolina/ *Greeting and Introduction: Leon Fink, University of Illinois at Chicago Commentators: Nan Enstad, University of Wisconsin Madison; Adam Green, University of Chicago; Susan Levine, University of Illinois at Chicago; Nancy MacLean, Northwestern University; and Rick Perlstein, author of Nixonland * Unlike other seminar meetings, during the Saturday symposium, seminar participants discuss a recently published book. Copies of Buying Power will be available for purchase in the Newberry Library's A.C. McClurg Bookstore. Seminar attendees may also request a copy of the book's introduction by writing to scholl@newberry.org Lunch will be provided for everyone who RSVPs to the seminar before November 6, 2009, so please do let us know if you plan to attend.
