There is quite a large literature on this topic now. You might begin with an early, classic article by Juan Gomez Quinones in the journal Aztlan: A Journal of Chicano Studies, Vol. 3: 1, 1972. The same journal carried quite a few article on the same topic in its early years. Well worth a browse. Mario Garcia's biography of Bert Corona (called _Memories of Chicano History_) is very helpful. Vicky Ruiz has written some excellent material on chicana women and labor organizing. See, for example, chapters in her book _From Out of the Shadows_ and her excellent earlier book _Cannery Women, Cannery Lives_ E. M. Buelna, 'The Mexican Question: Mexican-Americans in the Communist Party, 1940-1957' is also relevant (a paper on online from UC Irvine is available). The same author has a published journal article also on the same topic.
