Institution Type: College / University Location: Germany Position: Full Professor Call for applications Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) The Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology invites applications for a W3 Professorship for Politics and Society in the Middle East at the Institute of Political Science at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy to be filled by the earliest possible starting date. The successful candidate is expected to represent the field adequately in teaching and research with a focus on political science. To qualify, applicants must have advanced knowledge of Arabic and proficiency in a further Middle Eastern language (Turkish or Persian) is desirable. The professorship includes teaching and developing the degree programme MA Middle Eastern Studies. The successful candidate is expected to work closely with the Near and Middle East section of the Center for Area Studies in Erlangen and to incorporate key contemporary historical, cultural, linguistic and religious aspects of Middle East research from a political and social perspective. Important research focus areas include the comparison of political systems in the Middle East, international relations of the Middle East, and the political culture and intellectual history of the Middle East. Prerequisites for the position are a university degree, university level teaching experience, a doctoral degree, and additional academic qualifications. These should be in the form of a Habilitation (post-doctoral thesis) or equivalent academic publications. The necessary qualifications may also have been acquired in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (e.g. W1 Professor or Assistant Professor). FAU expects applicants to become actively involved in the administration of academic affairs and welcomes experience in managing research projects and raising third-party funding.
