I'm looking for information on a R. Yosef me-Akko. He is mentioned in Moses of Salerno's Commentary to the Guide, in the portion that comments on the Guide's introduction. Salerno has the following attributed quotation: "R' Yosef me-Akko would read (gores) mesapekim (amphibolous/ ambiguous) terms to agree with sipek (supply, provide, etc.) and not with safek (doubtful, ambiguous)." (MS Munich Cod Heb 370, 2r). Following the quote is Salerno's explanation of it, which seems to make little sense without background information. Eitan Fishbane's dissertation (recently published) has much to say about Akko in the late 12th c., but as far as I could determine this name is not mentioned there. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Igor H. de Souza University of Chicago
