Sent: Thursday, October 29, 2009 11:50 Subject: Veterans' salute at Oswego's Little White School Museum Nov. 8 Salute to veterans at Oswego’s Little White School Museum on Sunday, Nov. 8 Area residents are invited to commemorate Veterans Day and learn more about the history of World War II and other conflicts of the 20th Century during the Little White School Museum’s next Living History Sunday on Nov. 8. From noon to 3:30 p.m., members of the World War II Reenactment Society will bring the era of the second great war of the 20th Century to life inside and on the grounds of the museum, located at the corner of Jackson at Polk Street, Oswego. Displays inside and outside the museum, including period uniforms and artifacts by organization members and other area residents will pay tribute to the men and women who served the nation during World War II. In addition, the museum will offer a special, one-day exhibit of military artifacts from their collections normally not on display, including a collection of photos of service men and women that originally hung in Shuler’s Drug Store during World War II. Other items to be taken out of storage for this rare exhibit include memorabilia concerning famed U.S. Navy Capt. Slade Cutter, uniforms, war souvenirs, uniforms and equipment used by several area residents from conflicts ranging from World War I to Vietnam, and more. Along with the special exhibits, the community museum will be open to visitors, as will the museum gift shop, featuring items related to local history. Admission is free but donations to help support the museum’s mission to protect, preserve, and interpret local history are always appreciated. The Little White School Museum is located at 72 Polk Street, just two blocks from downtown Oswego. Regular hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, 12 noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 630-554-2999 during regular museum hours or send an e-mail to info@littlewhiteschoolmuseum.org for more information.
