I am on sabbatical during the spring 2010 working on a project looking at the 1977 White Sox and Cubs' pennant races with the backdrop of a transforming post-industrial Chicago. While the narrative will feature the baseball season, the larger analytical framework will use sports as a way to look at changing ethno-racial, economic, and political relationships and dynamics in the city. Any suggestions for monographs or archival material from those interested in the history of baseball, post-industrial urban environments, post-Daley (the First) Chicago, etc. would be most welcome.
