Date sent: 21 Oct 2009 We have extended the deadline for papers for the "Geographies of Advertising" AAG 2010 Annual Meeting Paper Session. Please contact me if you have any questions . . . Geographies of the Media: Geographies of Advertising 2010 AAG Annual Meeting, Washington DC 14-18th April 2010 Organizers: Jim Craine and Christina Dando We use place to advertise products. Our ads are "placed" -- in magazines, billboards, television, films, even foreheads. We advertise places -- for tourism, for business. We adapt advertising campaigns for products so that they vary from one part of the world to another. But this seemingly simple act of "selling" is also tied to complex webs of consumption, material culture, globalization, the constructions of place, the politics of representation, and more. This session seeks to explore the spectrum of geographies of advertising, from its forms through its implications. We invite papers that address some aspect of this spectrum and that will, in some way, advance our understanding of the cultural politics of advertising. Please send abstracts by 25th October to: Chris Dando Christina Dando Associate Professor Department of Geography and Geology
