Greetings - I'm new to the listserv, and wanted to introduce myself. I'm the producer of "BackStory with the American History Guys," the new public radio program & podcast based down in Virginia. On each show, historian-hosts Ed Ayers, Peter Onuf, and Brian Balogh tear a topic from the news (or holiday calendar) and spend an hour exploring its historical context. Since we launched last summer, we've been getting a lot of positive feedback from secondary-level history teachers, and are extremely enthusiastic about the prospect of working with educators to make our content more useful in the classroom. We encourage you to spend a little time on our website, and let us know what you think. Of special interest to teachers will be the "Highlights" section, which features 8-10 minute excerpts of BackStory content. You can find us here: http://www.backstoryradio.org/ Finally -- If any of you are looking for Thanksgiving-related resources, check out our episode on the history of the Thanksgiving. We've just posted an original audio slide show there that focuses on the story of Sarah Josepha Hale, the 19th century magazine editor who pretty much single-handedly got Thanksgiving onto the national calendar: http://www.backstoryradio.org/2008/11/american-as-pumpkin-pie-a-history-of-thanksgiving/ Thanks....and stay in touch!
