My school district is experimenting with introducing Moodle, an open source version of Blackboard or WebCT, into our classrooms. I am one of the trial teachers who has begun posting assignments, links, wikis and the like. I am curious about a few questions I'd like others to comment on: 1. If you use Moodle or other similar programs, how have you made it a part of your regular teaching? Is it a replacement for maintaining your own class Web pages or is it something more? 2. Has the use of such software changed the way you teach or the way you manage your classroom? If so, how? If not, why not? 3. Has your on-line management software been widely adopted by your colleagues? Has the response been more limited? If you were an "early adopter," were you part of a team to introduce it to colleagues and were you sucessful in helping them understand it's benefits? How did you handle peer resistance or even student/parent resistance to using the program? As we are in the beginning hases of this trial, I am hoping to have an on-going discussion about this as we experiement with more features and begin introducing the software to more of the faculty. I am therefore interested in sharing any posts here with the poers that be in our administration and technology departments, so the more detailed your responses, the better. As I am attending a conference in Massachusetts for computer-using educators next week, I hope to post some of what I learn here for further discussion. -- Joseph J.
