Regarding Prof. Siracusa's interesting comment from John Fairbank: "Fairbank cited as a counterpoint [to ignorance of Vietnamese culture, etc.] American relations with, and understanding of Europe during the two world wars of the twentieth century." But regardless of American understanding-or lack thereof- of Europe during World War II, America fought in Japan as well.
