Douglas Macdonald wrote that Roger Hilsman, in the 1990s, wrote a letter to the editor of some unspecified publication claiming that the coup that overthrew Ngo Dinh Diem, in 1963, had come as a "complete surprise" to the Kennedy Administration. This seems startlingly contradictory to what Hilsman had written on the subject in his memoirs. I would like to know the title of the publication, and the date the letter was published.
