Arnold Offner's post reflects a view that hasn't changed since the end of the Vietnam War. This is odd in a thread devoted to historical perspectives. What meaning can we attach to the phrase "the Vietnamese had the right to determine their own future" when two Communist imperial powers were intervening in behalf of the Communist regime in North Vietnam? Obviously the United States wouldn't have been involved in Vietnam in the first place if not for the prior intervention of the Soviets and Chinese. David Horowitz
