Michael C.C. Adams's _The Best War Ever: America and World War II_ sounds like just what you're looking for. It covers a lot, is extremely well written, and is quite provocative. Moreover, it's only 159 pages, exclusive of notes and bibliogrpahy. I've used it before, and the students really do seem to enjoy it. John Moser Ashland University
