Save Our Seminary Save Our Seminary at Forest Glen (also known as SOS) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1988 and incorporated in 1989 to combat the neglect of the unique, beautiful and historic buildings and landscape of the National Park Seminary in Silver Spring, Maryland. The mission of SOS is to preserve the National Park Seminary, communicate its history, and guide its future. We work to achieve this mission by: Preserving, protecting, and restoring the buildings, structures, objects, and landscape of the Seminary and its surroundings, Communicating the Seminary's history, beauty, and unique character through research, documentation, interpretation, instruction, and promotion to increase public awareness and support Guiding the Seminary's future by determining its appropriate use and treatment and ensuring public support and access see: http://www.saveourseminary.org/nationalpark.html SOS offers guided walking tours from March through November on the fourth Saturday of the month and on one Sunday. Tour Dates for 2013 Saturday, March 23 - Next Tour Saturday, April 27 Saturday, May 25 - sororities theme Saturday, June 22 Saturday, July 27 - SOS collections and archives theme Sunday, August 11 Saturday, August 24 Saturday, September 28 Saturday, October 26 Saturday, November 23 - army-years theme Tours start at 1:00 pm and last 1.5 to 2 hours. Tours involve moderate walking on outdoor paved paths. Interiors with stairs are included; an elevator is available if needed. Cost: Fee is $5 per person for non-SOS members. SOS members and children 12 and under are free. Reservations: Reservations are not needed-just come! Directions: See directions below, or use your GPS or Internet search to locate 2755 Cassedy Street, Silver Spring, MD 20910. The tour begins across from 2755 Cassedy in front of the Gymnasium on Cassedy Street at Linden Lane. - From Georgia Avenue south of the Beltway (I-495), go west (left) on Seminary Road for one block through traffic light to Linden Lane. (Linden Lane goes straight; Seminary Road bears right.) Proceed 0.5 mile, crossing a bridge. Continue on Linden Lane, and turn right at Cassedy Street to the meeting point. - From Georgia Avenue north of the Beltway (I-495), go west (right) on Forest Glen Road for about one mile, crossing the railroad tracks. Continue across a bridge over the Beltway, and bear left on Linden Lane. Continue on Linden Lane, and turn left at Cassedy Street to the meeting point. - From the Chevy Chase/Kensington/Bethesda area, take Jones Mill Road, go east on Forsythe Avenue. At the top of the hill, go through the 5-way intersection onto Woodstock Avenue for one block. Continue straight on Linden Lane, and turn left at Cassedy Street to the meeting point. Parking: Please park on Linden Lane or follow the direction of SOS members at the Gymnasium.
