I just did a very quick keyword search in ProQuest Historical Newspapers database of Baltimore Afro-American. (There are 48 hits using the phrase "Inspiration House" between 1946 and 1958). According an article in Dec 22, 1951 page 13, Inspiration House was located at 1867 Kalorama Rd. NW. References to tea parties, luncheons, dinners, banquets and workshops appear many times in the social columns: Pearlie's Prattle, Captial Spotlight, Gadabouting in the U.S.A. Thanks for posing the question because it raises some questions for me about my own work. . . . . . . . . . kelly quinn, ph.d. fall 2009 post-doctoral fellow at center for the study of modern art illinois @ the phillips collection 1600 21st street, NW washington, dc 20009 (on academic leave during 2009-2010) assistant professor of american studies miami university 119 macmillan hall oxford, ohio 45056 513.529.9287 ________________________________________ Matthew Gilmore H-DC list co-editor, web editor dc-edit@mail.h-net.msu.edu http://www.h-net.org/~dclist/ [list website] http://www.h-net.org/lists/subscribe.cgi?list=H-DC [subscribe to H-DC] Remember to check http://h-net.msu.edu/cgi-bin/logbrowse.pl?trx=lm&list=H-DC for past list messages.
