The successful candidate will have a Ph.D., a demonstrated record of executive administrative experience, an active research program, and national visibility in Hispanic Literature, Hispanic Linguistics, or Latino/Chicano Studies. The department favors a candidate with strong leadership skills, sensitivity to issues of diversity, and committed to the advancement of its research and educational missions. The Department is in its sixth year as an independent Ph.D.- granting unit with more than twenty full-time faculty in the areas of language acquisition, linguistics, Hispanic cultural studies, and Latin American, Peninsular and U.S. Hispanic/Latino literature and culture. The ideal candidate will develop key opportunities offered by a young, growing, and innovative program in a border state with a large Spanish-speaking population. A flagship institution, Texas A&M is an AAU, Research Intensive University. The 205 NACUBO Endowment Study ranks Texas A&M University and Foundations as ninth among all US institutions of higher learning in the market value of its endowment assets. Current enrollment is about 48,000. College Station is the center of a metropolitan area with a population of approximately 200,000. Minority and women scholars are strongly urged to apply.
