The following announcement may be of interest to some H-Catholic subscribers: The Benedictine Monks of Newark Abbey and the New Jersey Catholic Historical Commission will co-sponsor a one-day symposium on “The Catholic Church in New Jersey: New Historical Insights” on Saturday, April 17, 2010. The conference, to be held at Newark Abbey/St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, is part of a continuing celebration of the sesquicentennial of Benedictine presence in New Jersey. Papers addressing any aspect of New Jersey Catholic history are welcome. Preference will be given to those papers that shed new light on the history of the Catholic community in New Jersey. Anyone wishing to have a paper considered for presentation should send an abstract of 300-500 words by January 15 to Augustine Curley, OSB [acurley@sbp.org <mailto:acurley@sbp.org> ]. Please include your name and present affiliation, and put “New Jersey Catholic History Conference” in the subject field. Proposals can also be mailed to: New Jersey Catholic History Conference, c/o Augustine J. Curley, O.S.B., Newark Abbey, 520 Martin L. King Blvd, Newark, N.J. 07102.
