I am not aware of a complete translation of _Sumangala-Vilasini_ -
Buddhaghosa's Commentary on the Digha Nikāya (Pali Text Society). The
Pali commentaries do not translate very well for several
reasons. However, I am aware of the following translations of the
commentaries on particular suttas excerpted from _Sumangala-Vilasini_:
on _Brahmajāla Sutta_, trans. Bhikkhu Bodhi in 'The All-Embracing Net of
Views' BPS: Kandy new ed 1998.
on _Samaññaphāla Sutta_, trans. Bhikkhu Bodhi in 'Discourse on the
Fruits of Recluseship' BPS: Kandy new ed 1998.
on _Mahānidāna Sutta_, trans. Bhikkhu Bodhi in 'The Great Discourse on
Causation' BPS: Kandy 1984.
on _Mahāparinibāna Sutta_, trans. Yang-Gyu AN in 'The Buddha's Last
Days' PTS 2003.
Bhikkhu Bodhi's translations include the suttas and all some extracts
from the sub-commentaries. The sections from the commentaries are not
complete translations, only of the parts that translate reasonably
well. Altogether these extracts represent 20% of the complete Diigha
Nikāya commentary I guess. They should get your student started.
