The position will be affiliated with project D14, "Language Flows in Pre-Modern East-Asia: the Case of Literary Chinese," which explores the spread and use of Literary Chinese as a high prestige linguistic variety in pre-modern East Asia. Research proposals may tackle any aspect of the phenomenon, including institutional or cultural, but preference will be given to topics with a strong linguistic focus. The candidates should have a MA or PhD with a focus on East Asia, excellent knowledge of Classical Chinese, as well as of at least one other East Asian language.
