H-ASIA November 6, 2009 Call for papers: European Association xxx South Asian Archaeology, Vienna, July 4-10, 2010 *********************************************************************** From: EASAA <conference2010@easaa.org> Conference Vienna 2010 We are pleased to announce the upcoming conference in 2010, which will be the EASAA's 20th conference as well as the 40th anniversary of the association itself. The conference will be held at the in Vienna, Austria from Sunday 4th to Saturday 10th of July 2010. The conference will take place in the CAMPUS of the Univ. of Vienna, please see "how to find us". Collection of materials if you have pre-registered, or registration will start Sunday 4th, 3pm with an informal reception at 6pm. The opening convocation will take place on Monday 5th July at 10am. The conference will consist of two simultaneous sessions, one pre and proto-historic archaeology and one historic archaeology and art history; and poster sessions. We are still in the process of reorganizing the format of the conference, the exact structure will be announced on the website. Conference contributions should be drawn from current and unpublished research dealing with the archaeology and art history of South Asia. Topics from neighboring regions - i.e. Iran, the Tibetan culture zone, or Central Asia will also be considered when they illuminate problems in South Asian archaeology or art history. Applicants may submit only one abstract for a 20 minute conference presentation or one poster presentation for peer review by a board of experts. Presentations and posters that have been accepted will appear in the book of abstracts. Under no circumstances will someone be permitted to give more than one presentation. It is hoped that this new structure will allow for a decrease in the number of parallel sessions and an increase in the quality of interaction during discussions, in short to a more satisfying intellectual experience. Doctoral students who would like to submit a presentation are required to have attended at least one Conference of the EASAA and will additionally have to supply a letter of recommendation from their supervisor. We would like to especially encourage participants to apply for poster presentations rather than formal sessions. The Conference fees will be Eur 180 regular and Eur 110 for students. All students automatically receive a scholarship. Students will be required to show a valid picture student id during the collection of materials on-site and will have to pay the regular fee if failing to do so. If you have previously registered, but pay the fee in Vienna there is a 20 penalty (= Eur 200 fee). If you register for the first time in Vienna there will be a 40 Eur penalty. Thus, to register on site there is an increased fee of Eur 220. In order for the maximum number of participants to enjoy living together in a beautiful and historical building close to the Campus we have booked the student house, the "Porzellaneum", at a very reasonable price. For those who prefer a private attached bathroom we also offer 3 and 4 star hotels. Further details on the conference, registration and application will be supplied on this website as soon as possible. I look forward to greeting you in Vienna. In order to conform to general procedures in national and international conferences and institutions, a peer review process will be undertaken to select paper presentations and posters for the conference. The papers submitted for publication in the conference proceedings will also be peer reviewed. If you have been accepted for a poster presentation, please bring the already printed poster (Din A1 format: 594mm x 841mm or 23,4in x 33,1in), as well as a digital version for the online poster- proceedings, with you to be presented to the conference organisation at the registration on Sunday by 5 p.m. latest. There are no facilities for printing your posters for you at the conference. We hope to hold only two concurrent conference sessions subdivided into smaller units lasting between 1,5 and 2 hours and consisting of three to four oral presentations (or more if presented jointly). We will group by topic those presentations that have been selected by the peer review committee. It will also be possible to request that papers and posters be grouped together as a single "panel". Each "panel" should not include more than three or four oral presentations. Posters relating to the same topic will be presented in complementary poster sessions, during which presenters will have the opportunity to answer questions about their posters. If several scholars are interested in having their presentations in the same ?panel?, they should indicate this in their paper submission (e.g., this paper is intended to be included in the "X" "panel" chaired by "Y", together with the other papers by (list names) and posters by (list names).). The committee will take into consideration requests for a "panel", but will review each paper submission separately.
