Visuality, Visibility, and Glocalization: Transnationalism and Chinese-
Language Film Studies
Location: Louisiana, United States
Call for Papers Deadline: 2009-11-13 (in 7 days)
Date Submitted: 2009-11-04
Announcement ID: 171780
With global capitalism and transnational cultural exchanges, images are
consumed across national, geopolitical, geological, and linguistic
borders with unprecedented ease. This free flow of visual cultures
demands transnational interpretation focusing on the complex power
dynamic between the original and its adaptation.
This seminar invites papers that examine national visuality,
transnational film adaptations, glocalization in the production and
conceptualization of Chinese-language films and arts, and the cultural
reimagining at work in the contemporary Chinese cinema. Presentations
that draw on other regional cinemas and literatures, illuminating a
broader investigation of transnationalism and (inter)national visuality,
are also welcome.
