2009

From: Mari Nakahara <mnak@loc.gov>
The Library of Congress Asian Division and its Friends Society (ADFS)
cordially invite you to the inaugural program of the Ambassadors Lecture
Series on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 5:30pm-7:00pm, with a reception to
follow, at the Library of Congress.
THEME: The theme for the first event is International Commerce and
Cross-Border Economic Development.
FORMAT: This program will involve the Ambassador of Singapore to the U.S.,
the Honorable Chan Heng Chee, who will interact with a panel composed of
other Asian nations' ambassadors to the U.S. Also invited is the
Honorable Gary Locke, Secretary of Commerce.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the Ambassadors Lecture Series is to focus
attention on bringing broader awareness of the Library's comprehensive
collections, exceptional services, and global expertise to the Asian
diplomatic, commercial, and research communities. It is our goal to open
the lines of communication on important matters affecting the US and Asian
region relationship.
AUDIENCE: The topics that will be addressed will attract individuals and
groups who ordinarily might not come to the Library. This program welcomes
participation from members of Congress, the US government, the private
sector, think-tanks, NGOs, academia, and others in the DC community.
REGISTRATION: The program is free and open to the public. However, due to
limited space, pre-registration is required. Registration and other
details will be forthcoming.
MEMBERSHIP SUPPORT: ADFS seeks your contributions and support. For more
information, visit www.lcasianfriends.org or contact Dr. Anchi Hoh, Chief
Executive Director, at adia@loc.gov or 202-707-5673.
The Asian Division Friends Society (ADFS) assists the Asian Division to
make its comprehensive collections available for use by the broadest
possible audiences-locally, nationally, and internationally. ADFS promotes
the Asian Division through its outreach and sponsored programs and
advances the services of the Asian Division through community programs
that augment the Library's Asian collections and the recently established
Asian American Pacific Islander archive.
