IT English Teachers Wanted, Peking University, China
The Peking University Software School (PKUSS) is looking for two (2)
native English speakers to teach IT English in the 2006-2007 academic
year.
Appointment -- September 5th, 2006 to June 30th, 2007. The appointment
can be on semester basis, and the applicants should indicate whether she
or he would like to have a semester contract or a yearly contract.
Selected candidates are expected to be in Beijing, China no later than
September 4th, preferably September 1st, 2006.
Students -- Most students are juniors in their master's program, or
seniors in their bachelor's program, in the fields of software
engineering and/or digital art. They will be divided into separate
study groups, with 30-35 people in each group. Each group will meet
15-16 three-hour sessions, for a semester, that is, 45-48 instructional
hours.
Each teacher will be in charge of 4-5 of these study groups in each
semester. All these study groups will use the same course curriculum
and texts, which is identified below. The average weekly teaching load
for each teacher is 18 hours, plus office hours and faculty meeting
time.
Compensation -- A stipend of RMB83,000 for the nine-month contract, or a
half of that amount for a semester contract. Currently the exchange
rate is US$1=RMB7.99999. The PKUSS will also provide successful
candidates an A-plus on-campus housing, reimburse your visa application
fee and two roundtrip airfares (up to US$1,500, upon your completion of
the contract.)
Qualifications -- A successful candidate should have a bachelor's
degree, demonstrate the capability (or the potential) of being an
English teacher for non-English speaking students. The PKUSS prefers
applicants with reasonable training or interest in the field of IT, and
some interest in and/or knowledge of Chinese culture. Women are
particularly encouraged to apply.
