Starting Date of Job:
1 March 2004 for 12 months, possibility of extension.
Duties:
- Up to 16 hours English teaching (contact/classrooms hours) per week to
beginner to intermediate level students
- Some extra-curricular activities and remedial coaching
Requirements:
- Minimum BA and TESL qualification and/or experience
- 3 years TESL experience, including one year in China, highly desirable
- Functional spoken Mandarin highly desirable
- Ability to live and work independently in a multicultural environment

Other Information:
The English Training Program of the Nationalities Department of Qinghai
Normal University will have eight classes of English majors beginning 1
March 2004. The levels range from absolute beginner to students enrolled
in the new BA English major program. Students are from the Tibet
Autonomous Region and the provinces of Gansu, Yunnan, Sichuan, and
Qinghai.
The program is seeking a professional ESL teacher to teach a variety of
English courses (both skills-based and content based) who is
self-reliant, committed, professional teacher who must be able to "stand
alone" i.e. plan and run classes independently and develop curriculum,
where necessary. The ability to deal independently with day-to-day life
in China is essential.
Pay and Benefits:
- USD$11,000 (total remuneration for 12 months), depending on
qualifications and experience. It is important to note that this sum must
also cover housing costs (estimated at 12,000 rmb yearly--currently USD1
= ~8.2 rmb), food, medical costs and insurance, all transportation costs,
and all other costs. The Nationalities Department will provide assistance
with locating housing.
