I am delighted that Clare Sparks wishes for me to explain further, but I
view this list as a briefing point, not as a publication base, especially
in the middle of a teaching semester. That said, her point is well taken
and worth exploring further.

As far as the connection goes, you need to widen your explanation to the
crisis of masculinity. George Mosse explored this in great detail. The
seeds, however, already appear in the late 19th century.
