First Call for Papers: Australia and New Zealand American Studies Association Conference University of Adelaide 1st-4th July 2010 The University of Adelaide and Flinders University are delighted to announce that they are hosting the Australia and New Zealand Association for American Studies Conference in 2010. ANZASA brings together scholars from Australia and New Zealand with colleagues who specialise in American Studies from around the world for a major conference held every two years. Papers on American Studies topics from a broad range of disciplines (e.g. History, Politics, Literary Studies, Film Studies, Law, etc.) are invited. Postgraduate students, as well as senior scholars, are warmly encouraged to submit proposals. There are two kinds of proposals: Panel proposals (up to 60 minutes, or 3 speakers). These should include a panel title, a 200-word abstract for each paper and a one-page CV for each person delivering a paper. Panellists should also nominate a proposed Chair. Individual proposals for 20 minute papers. These should include an abstract and a half-page CV. Deadline: December 17, 2009 Please send your abstract and brief CV via email to the conference email address: anzasa2010@gmail.com At present, our confirmed keynote speakers include: Professor Shane White, History, University of Sydney Professor Patricia Yaeger, English & Women's Studies, University of Michigan Associate Professor Sharon Block, History, University of California, Irvine Professor Penny Von Eschen, American Culture, University of Michigan Accommodation & registration: Information on accommodation and registration will be available shortly; full and concession registration rates will be available. Graduate student accommodation will be available from $20 per night. As detailed information comes to hand, it will appear at: http://www.anzasa.arts.usyd.edu.au/conference/docs/index.htm About the venue: The Conference will be based at the University of Adelaide campus on North Terrace in Adelaide. The historic campus is located in the cultural heart of the Adelaide CBD. Adelaide is the capital of South Australia, and is nestled between white sandy beaches and forested hills. In the city itself, there are many sites of interest, and a wide array of culinary diversions, including the Adelaide Central Market, the National Wine Centre of Australia, and vibrant cafes and restaurants that boast some of Australia’s best chefs. Adelaide is also the perfect base from which to explore South Australia and the Australian outback. The region produces internationally outstanding wines, and many of Australia’s finest wineries can be reached in day-trips from Adelaide: the Barossa Valley, for example. Further afield are unique sites such as the Flinders Ranges, the World Heritage Listed Naracoorte Caves National Park, and the marvellous Kangaroo Island. Adelaide’s winter climate is temperate with high temperatures in July averaging around 15 degrees Celsius, and overnight lows of around 3 to 7 degrees Celsius.
