Members of the list may be interested in the following conference, to be held in September 1999, NOT 1998. Plans are to have sessions linked via tele-conferencing to a site at the Institute of American Studies at Oxford University. Information on the conference will be updated on the Winthrop Papers home page, http://www.millersv.edu/~winthrop John Winthrop's Worlds: England and New England 1588-1649 Millersville University of Pennsylvania sponsored by Millersville University of Pennsylvania Indiana University of Pennsylvania The Massachusetts Historical Society The Institue for American Studies of Oxford University The Omohundro Institute for Early American History and Culture Commemorating the 350th anniversary of the death of John Winthrop, this conference has been designed to review the state of the fields of colonial New England studies and Tudor-Stuart England studies at the close of the twentieth century, and to encourage interaction between scholars in these two fields. Thus, most sessions will feature a look at a particular subject from the perspectives of England and New England in the time period. Each presenter has been asked to prepare a paper that will be a creative synthesis a review of the subject enriched by the scholar's own research and insights. All papers will be pre-distributed to those who register so that sessions will focus on discussion of the papers.
