Artist Robert Colescott's father worked as a pullman porter with Sargent Johnson. Sally Eauclaire mentions this in "One-Two Punchinello" Artnews (June 1997):104-107 and I also remember Colescott discussing Sargetn Johnson in a tv production entitled The One-Two Punch (on vhs) 1992, created & produced by Linda Freeman, Written and Directed by David Irving, L&S Video, Inc - you should be able to find this on WorldCat. I imagine exhibition catalogues on Colescott's work mention his and his father's interaction with Johnson as well.
