Wilburn, Kenneth WILBURNK@ecu.edu Tuesday, November 20, 2012 CFP: SERSAS/SEAN Spring 2013 Conference, 8-9 February --------------------------------------- From: Todd Leedy, University of Florida <tleedy@ufl.edu> Date: 20 November 2012 Call for Proposals South East Regional Seminar in African Studies (SERSAS) and South East Africanist Network (SEAN) Spring Meeting 8-9 February 2013 (Friday evening and Saturday) University of Florida, Gainesville Co-sponsored by the Center for African Studies, University of Florida and the African Studies Center, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill "Africa Looks Back: Reflections, Constructions, Imaginations" How has post-independence Africa engaged with its past? How do contemporary residents depict - for themselves and others - the lives they build? How is the future of Africa imagined by those living in its present? SERSAS and SEAN welcome proposals from scholars in various disciplines who address this general theme, including but not limited to the following topics: * architecture * advertising * cinema * dance * drama * heritage & heritage management * literature * popular music * print, televised, and social media The joint SERSAS/SEAN conference prides itself on providing a collegial and welcoming atmosphere, and we are particularly interested in supporting emerging scholars. If there is sufficient interest, there will be a workshop format session for advanced undergraduate and graduate student research. SERSAS offers a prize for best graduate student paper at each meeting. Registration: A registration fee of $20 ($10 for students) will be collected on-site. A limited amount of funding is available to cover local accommodation costs for participants. Hotel information and venue directions will be posted with the preliminary program in early January. Submission deadline: Please submit your proposal (250 word max) via email to the organizing committee below by Monday, 17 December 2012.
