Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz <firstname.lastname@example.org> For a future research project on African popular culture and media I am looking for 1960s & 70s African photo novels featuring such characters as: *Lance Spearman* (a.k.a. The Spear, or "Spia") *Fearless Fang, a.o.* Published by South African Drum Publications Ltd. in magazines called: *African Film* (or just "Film") - in West and East Africa *Spear - * in South Africa These were distributed in West Africa via Drum Publications of Nigeria ,Lagos, in East Africa via East African Drum Publications (Nairobi). Part of the production (storylines) was done in Johannesburg, photography took place in Swaziland, and printing in London. I would be willing to buy originals (for our Institutes library), but photocopies would also do (for which I would also compensate the owner of the magazines). As a student of African popular culture my interest is purely academic (i.e. I am not a dealer in comic books). I am also interested in the historical processes of production and consumption of these so called "look-reads". Any information about and/or contacts to people involved in creating these stories, and readers and fans of The Spear would be highly appreciated. Please contact: Matthias Krings email@example.com
