Greetings. I am forwarding an email I received from
friends in Los Angeles today. I have not attempted to
verify it; I thought I would see if someone on this
list had any additional information.
Additionally, i have been looking for an essay that
Prof. Kunene did several years ago entitled "The Global
Goddess Image and Its Relevance for Social Change." I
have been on the hunt for this for quite some time and
now, to hear of his possible passing, is quite sad
indeed.
[Editor's note: Masizi Kunene, South African poet and
long time professor at UCLA passed away on August 12th,
2006, after a long illness.]

It is unfortunate that I inform you of the death of
your instructor from UCLA, Professor Mazizi Kunene, of
the African Studies department. He passed last Thursday
in Durban, and we, Dad and I, only realized from a
newspaper report in the Sunday papers. He was honored
on the News morning show today, in which they spoke of
his honors as a Poet.
