Northwestern University <firstname.lastname@example.org> Not directly related to the query, but perhaps of interest: Laura Fair, in her recent book on popular urban culture in pre-war Zanzibar, has a chapter on football that describes how control of work-related sports clubs enabled rulers to exert their influence over this important aspect of African leisure activities. Most important in this regard were football clubs associated with the Public Works Department and other government agencies.
