Co-editor, H-AFRICA H-AFRICA is pleased to announce an exciting new ROUNTABLE REVIEW & DISCUSSION on an interesting new book: Achille Mbembe, _On the Postcolony_. The publisher, University of California Press, is linking to our website (and us to them) and have kindly put up a PDF file of a selected chapter of the book for the time of this scholarly exchange to widen the debate to also involve you, the reader. We invite you to now read the chapter at: http://www.ucpress.edu/books/pages/6782.html or direct at http://www.ucpress.edu/books/pages/6782/6782.ch2.pdf H-AFRICA is commissioning several reviews of this book, which will have wide interest across Africa and among Africanists from a range of disciplines. The exchange is multifaceted: the e-chapter; an initial review co-published with permission of _African Studies Review_; our reviews, and your comments, which we invite you to send. The editors of H-Africa would like to thank the University of California Press, the editors of the African Studies Review and the African Studies Association, and Professor Ato Quayson (Director, African Studies Centre, The University of Cambridge) for their collaboration on this roundtable. Prof Achille Mbembe is a leading scholar of Africa, at one time Executive Secretary of CODESRIA. Among his many publications are: On private indirect government (Dakar, 2000), La naissance du maquis dans le Sud-Cameroun, 1920-60 (Paris, 1996), Les jeunes et l'ordre politique en Afrique noire (Paris,1985) Le Politique par le bas en Afrique noire (Paris, 1992) and Afriques indociles (Paris,1988). His latest book also is published in Paris and we thus also invite comments in French.
